Church Sponsorship
Church sponsorship involves five basic elements including picking
a regular serving day, recruiting and training trip leaders, recruiting servers, setting up a donations bin, and financial
responsibility for the food. See Downloadable overview presentation below and to the right.
Picking a Regular Serving Day
Current available regular serving days on JESUS Delivers Truck
1 include Sunday, Wednesday, or Friday. Most churches start with one or two days per month. As momentum and volunteers
grow, the church can ultimately support one day per week.
Recruiting and Training Trip Leaders
To start, most churches name two individuals willing to commit to leading their serving days. To support a day
per week, it is recommended to formally name 4 to 5 leaders. The training process involves formal on-the-job work with
Peter Bolstorff including observing - participating in another church's serving day, supervised support with your first
serving day, and supervised behind the wheel practice driving the truck. A class C license is all that is required.
Recruiting Volunteers
There are several successful strategies for recruiting volunteers.
The minimum recommendation for a serving day is 4 servers (including the leader) for food and additional 1 or 2 for the clothing
distribution. Publishing the dates in the church newsletter, setting up a sign up station before or after services,
bringing the truck on site to serve coffee and cookies are all effective means to gather interest and get people to sign up.
It is also recommended that a formal "kick-off" be organized where Peter Bolstorff will speak to the congregation
using a slide show; the truck will be on site for show and tell, and the sign up is announced.
Setting
up a Donations Bin
Part of the JESUS Delivers ministry is to distribute clothing and accessories during the
serving of the meal. Setting up a standing "JESUS Delivers Bin" helps facilitate the donations process and
is a visible sign that the ministry is alive and well. Most churches put the bin in the narthex.
Financial
Responsibility
To serve one day per week for a year. 52 serving days, costs an estimated $6,000. If your
church does not have the means to meet this financial commitment; there are special funding opportunities available where
subsidies can be secured. Peter Bolstorff can work through the options and details.
