Through a series of anonymous donations, we have been able to outfit about 75 men with work boots. All recipients needed them to keep warm; half needed them because they were getting jobs and couldn't wear their tennis shoes. I have had at least 20 of the guys come back to the truck to share stories of how they worked themselves back to freedom. Their stories go something like this...at first they use the truck for food, clothing, and fellowship. Once they find a job, they stop eating at the truck saying. "...leave it to others, I am feeding myself now..." But they still will look for special clothing items (like boots) at the Trinity Gently Used Boutique. After about three months, they save up enough to find a place to live; that is a special day for them - ultimate freedom. They then may start eating at the truck again because toward the end of the month the money runs out, they have to pick between food and shelter. All the guys say that the truck is a constancy of Hope in their lives. One of the guys described the truck as a symbol of what the Holy Spirit must be like...
